Not just for kids!
| Customer Rating: | My eleven year old read this book out loud to me on several occasions-his favorite being what he learned about the number thirteen. Since he was born on a Friday 13th he's always been curious why it has been associated with bad luck. To his delight, thanks to this book, he learned the number 13 is actually quite lucky! But Friday, not so much. Oh well, at least he gained some great knowledge and it wasn't always so gross, just rather unusual.
I found myself glancing through this book and finding many interesting facts about things I've always wondered about. Such as diapers in the middle ages, hair styles throughout history, fashion and the lives of many queens, in particular Elizabeth I. She used a lead based face paint to achieve her 'whitish' complexion and it created such large craters on her face, by the end of her life she had to coat her face with 1/2 inch of the stuff to cover it all up. Who would of known that it would kill her.
Great book! Highly recommended not just for the kids, but for the adults as well. |

My seven year old doesn't like this book
| Customer Rating: | | My son likes bathroom talk as much as the next kid, but he didn't like this book. He zeroed in on the basic disrespect for everything in the past and he just didn't like it. After hearing him explain that he didn't think that George Washington's wooden teeth were what he wanted to care about, I had to agree with him that the book doesn't make history appealing. People in history end up sounding stupid for not knowing things we know now. I don't want my kids to read history with that kind of arrogance. |

| Customer Rating: | If you are the kind of person who has ever wondered what life was like before tiolet paper was invented, why sailors like eatiing in the dark (you might be sorry that you ever asked), and what medicical care was like in the bad old days, then this is the book for you.
This is great research presented in a phenominally entertaining manner that really knows how to grab the attention of a kid! Books like this can really tear a child away from the TV or video games. It's also a great gift for the book junkie of any age who thinks he already knows everything about everything.
