Summary:

With the spread of the powerhouse MATLAB® software into nearly every area of math, science, and engineering, it is important to have a strong introduction to using the software. Updated for version 7.0, MATLAB® Primer, Seventh Edition offers such an introduction as well as a "pocketbook" reference for everyday users of the software. It offers an intuitive language for expressing problems and solutions both numerically and graphically. The latest edition in this best-selling series, MATLAB® Primer, Seventh Edition incorporates a number of enhancements such as changes to the desktop, new features for developing M-files, the JIT accelerator, and an easier way of importing Java classes. In addition to the features new to version 7.0, this book includes: · A new section on M-Lint, the new debugger for M-files · A new chapter on calling Java from MATLAB and using Java objects inside the MATLAB workspace · A new chapter on calling Fortran from MATLAB · A new chapter on solving equations: symbolic and numeric polynomials, nonlinear equations, and differential equations · A new chapter on cell publishing, which replaces the "notebook" feature and allows the creation of Word, LaTeX, PowerPoint, and HTML documents with executable MATLAB commands and their outputs · Expanded Graphics coverage-including the 3D parametrically defined seashells on the front and back covers Whether you are new to MATLAB, new to version 7.0, or simply in need of a hands-on, to-the-point reference, MATLAB® Primer provides the tools you need in a conveniently sized, economically priced pocketbook.

It is mostly a list of functions with too few examples.
Customer Rating:  Score = 3 Score = 3 Score = 3 Score = 3 Score = 3
Having used the Mathematica book index for years now,
I know how it should be done. This isn't it...
It lists the functions, but gives no example form for them.
If you know MatLab, the help window is more use
than this book. A starter book not really worth
the price.

Quick and compact Matlab book

This is a very good reference. It is also very suitable for people starting in Matlab. Also the book has a very nice format, namely small and thin. In passing, I showed the book to a collegue with a Matlab question and he wanted to have a copy for himself. I can also recommend it for students.

Great for the beginner of MATLAB
Customer Rating:  Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5
Great book at introducing MATLAB. If you are an ABSOLUTE beginner in programming with MATLAB this book is a must. It answers practically all the questions a beginner would have and shows you where to go if you need additional information.

Wonderful matlab reference
Customer Rating:  Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5
Excellent text. Contains nice, brief summaries of matlab functionality, with references on where to go to get more verbose explanations. This book is about the size of a postcard. When I need to locate or discover a new function that I'm sure matlab has somewhere, this Primer is usually more effective than the matlab on-line help. Also good for an overview of functionality, an area where Matlab's on-line help is particularly weak. Assumes no knowledge of matlab.

Don't need anything else
Customer Rating:  Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5
In MATLAB, really the only thing you need is a list of commands, then you can type 'help command' and be done. Sigmon's book is just this. Good enough to carry me through undergrad to first year grad school. Next year I'll need a reference specializing in the controls toolkit, but this Primer will still be glued to my hand whenever I start Matlab. I'm buying one for each of my students.
