Useful for some stuff
Customer Rating:  Score = 3 Score = 3 Score = 3 Score = 3 Score = 3
This book on gunsmithing goes through some simple projects that almost everyone will, at one time or another, want to attempt. The reason for the 3 stars is possibly a pet peeve of mine but nonetheless; this book assumes that everyone who reads it already understands the terminology associated with guns and gunsmithing. In a basic book or a book claiming to make things easy there should at least be an index or better yet, a first chapter which discusses what is what and defines specialty terms used throughout the book. Other than that issues this book walks one through several basic gunsmithing tasks in an easy to follow manner.

Needs a different title

This book covers a few of projects fairly well. It reminded me of a collection of magazine articles. A limited collection at that. You won't learn gun smithing from this book but you might learn how to install a pad, refinish a stock or one or two other things. A title that accurately reflects this books contents would have earned it a higher rating.

Very Pleasant Read

I received this book a couple of days ago and I have read it from cover to cover, I must say that Bryce has some great knowledge in gunsmithing and yet he explains it so even beginners can understand and follow his instructions. Pictures are detailed with very good notations. He covers a few projects so you can pick up an old rifle and it up to a new rifle or just restore it a bit.

The only draw back is that I wished that he had more projects and it was a lot bigger book than it is. But anyhow a great valuable reference book to have.

Better books have been written

There are some helpful hints in Towsley's book, but don't be fooled by the nice binding and crisp color photographs. I'm not a master gunsmith, but I felt Towsley's book was lacking in professionalism. When I'm looking through my library for an article regarding a certain aspect of gunsmithing, I'd rather not be distracted by statements like "puke green carpet" and "trailer park trash" or "pimp my rifle." Nor do I feel it is necessary when captioning photographs and describing every firearm in the book that it was built by so-and-so, owned by so-and-so, and used to kill such-and-such big game or varmint. Luckily this book is reasonably priced. Otherwise, it wouldn't be worth purchasing, and I feel it has the potential to lead people astray from their path to becoming competent gunsmiths. If you really want to learn the art of gunsmithing, pick up any of the books by Patrick Sweeney and/or some of the books by Bill Holmes instead.

A book of common projects
Customer Rating:  Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5
I don't think I can add much to what has already been said, other than Gunsmithing Made Easy is a good book of projects almost any enthusiast would find useful. Some are very easy, like cleaning a bore to improve accuracy and some are more difficult, like fitting a short chambered barrel with handtools and not so expensive precision measuring tools. The language is concise and easy to follow, the supporting photography is excellent in quality and appropriate in support of instructions.

If I were to take exception and pick nits - I'd say bore cleaning isn't really gunsmithing and there are too many other sources that define this task and are free of charge. The second nit is the coverage of Ruger single action trigger repair. I thought the task was too unique to be included and the equipment used was more appropriate for a commercial shop. Like I said, nits. The book is inexpensive and the balance of the material was excellent.
