Summaries and Customer Reviews are supplied by Amazon.com The Black Swordsman Guts' former captain and lover, Casca, has been taken by the Holy Iron Chain Knights to the "Tower of Conviction" of the fanatic torturer of the Holy See, Mozgus, who plans to treat the rumored witch to the proper agonies of the damned, but Guts is on his way to rescue Casca and dish out some chastisement of his own on any who get in his way. But forces in the demonic realms are in motion and are being drawn to the torture tower in what may be a prelude to a second Eclipse and an unprecedented release of malign spirits into the world! slaughter continues... | Customer Rating: | The Epic Continues. If you know what berserk is then chances are you love it and chances are you need this volume. That simple, I'm not gonna write something long winded and tell the story. Buy this and read it. | The Blood of the Innocent is boiling... | Customer Rating: | ...quite literally, out from the seams of the tower, devouring anything it touches. Our Grand Inquisitor has taken Casca to the highest reaches of the tower to defend against it and her (as he believe that her witchcraft is the cause of it all), but Guts and crew aren't about to let that happen and, as the uninitiated look on in horror as Guts and Isidoro try to wrest Casca away from Mozgus and his newly transformed torturers, Fate is pushing all involved into an interstice similar to the eclipse that started this whole mess several years ago.
The latest apostle appears and it's purpose given full exposition. The Skull Knight is there to save a life or two in his quest for vengence against the demons, and even Zodd makes an appearance towards the end, though the main thrust of this volume is the demonic/angelic turn for Mozgus and company and their battle with Guts that all but destroys the tower (whose ruins form the familiar "Hand of Fate" shape from the first eclipse).
Lots and lots of action to be had in this volume. In fact, the only breather we have from the tension comes in the conversation between Luca and the Great Egg apostle, and even that is brief as The Skull Knight breaks in on their quiet moment.
Every side character strengthens their characterization a bit in the small moments of this volume. Nina crumbles more, Luca, in contrast, steels her resolve, Azan fights with honor to protect the civillians... hell, even the bit part abbot who was trying to send Farnese away is shown in a deeper light... and these are all one to two panel moments sprinkled through the action proper.
Excellent pacing and art... my only warning being for the extreme violence throughout. I recommend a buy with my "read everything before it" caveat.
For those of you who haven't skipped ahead, this next volume is pretty much the key to the Tower arc of the story. Something is coming, something is about to be reborn... and, if after all that has come to pass you still don't know what, here's a hint. Who is missing when the blood monsters attempt to stop Guts from saving Casca? I see the blood forming into several familiar forms there... but one is suspiciously absent.
Hmmmmm?
Enjoy and make sure you pick up the next volume! |
